THE CREATURES
Anima Animus
Instinct
Two principals of disbanded British-punk-pioneers Siouxsie and the Banshees carry on as the Creatures. Former Banshee Steven Severin being out of the picture, iconic Siouxsie Sioux and her percussionist husband, Budgie, go it mostly alone. The third Creatures album, Anima Animus makes a pretty good Banshees record. Goth queen Sioux is in haughty vocal form for fittingly dark and spooky music making. The enthusiastic Budgie stretches out with cascading tribal percussion while Knox Chandler's guitar-o-scopes complement multi-tracked singing, suicide-hoover-drone-, koto-zither- and toy piano-playing from Sioux. Budgie also tackles aqua-marimba, synthetiques, caustic guitar, organ and singing bowls.
